Grub Club & BBQ Fridays

During August we’ll be holding our second Grub Club – summer holiday meals for anyone in our community. These will be from 5 – 6 pm at St Paul’s on the last two weeks of the school summer holidays: 19 – 30 August (but not at weekends or on the Bank Holiday). We’re also putting on a free BBQ for our community on every Friday of the holidays (Friday 26 July – Friday 30 August), also at St Paul’s, from 5 – 7 pm. You may know people who would value coming to these meals at a time of year which can be challenging for a variety of reasons. Please encourage them along – and come yourself, too! #BBQ #Community #Food #Fun #Social #Summer

From the Rectory - July 2019

This month I had it in mind to write something about where our plastic is going – or not going! – to be recycled. But then, a couple of days ago, I heard about the Amazon rain forest on the news. I knew vast portions were being felled. But this really hit home… Every single minute an area of rain forest the size of a football pitch is being cleared by bulldozers. This is a catastrophe for the climate. The trees of the rain forest store vast amounts of carbon and their leaves also absorb a huge quantity of carbon dioxide. Added to that, though, it’s being done to graze cattle – just about the worst animals for their contribution to global warming. We are all now in no doubt that we face

New Bishop of Southampton

On Wednesday 3 July, Deborah Sellin was consecrated bishop at St Paul's Cathedral along with three other women called to serve as Church of England Bishops in other areas of the country. (She is pictured here outside the Cathedral with other senior members of our Diocesan clergy and staff - as well as former Archbishop Rowan Williams!) On Sunday 14 July at 3.30 pm Bishop Debbie will be installed as Bishop of Southampton and officially welcomed by our Diocese during Choral Evensong at Winchester Cathedral; she will also give the sermon. Anyone is most welcome to attend.

Music for a Summer's Afternoon - with cream tea!

On Sunday 21 July at 4 pm some of our young people will be giving a concert in St Mary’s. The instruments featured will include clarinet, bassoon, horn, trombone, violin and piano. In the interval cream teas will be served, costing £3 each (£1.50 for children). Anyone is most welcome to come along – it would be great to see you!

St Paul's Development Drop-in

On Tuesday 16 July, from 4.30 – 7.30 pm at St Paul’s, there will be the opportunity for anyone to come along and see the latest plans for the community extension. Borough Council officers, Councillors and church leaders will be very glad to hear your thoughts on the plans and answer any questions.

Missionary Visitors at PHF

On Monday 17 June Prayer Healing Fellowship had a lovely afternoon with Hans and Priscilla Breekveldt, who are Latin Link missionaries in Argentina. Priscilla gave us an update of their family and also their Church family. Hans developed the theme of 'Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel', showing us how we can do this whatever our circumstances, in line with Jesus’ call to 'make disciples'.

Prayer Healing Fellowship Coffee Morning

Prayer Healing Fellowship will hold their usual summer coffee morning in St Paul's on Saturday 10 August from 10 - 12 noon. There will be a few stalls (no Bric-a- Brac) and a raffle. Please come and support us. We look forward to seeing you there! Also a reminder that PHF carries on meeting in August except on the Bank Holiday, so if you are free and would like to join us, you will be made very welcome. We meet on Mondays at 3 pm in St Paul's.
