Remembrance 100

In Bishopstoke we will be marking the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War One in some special ways.

On Sunday 11 November, there will be an Act of Remembrance on Glebe Meadow starting at 10.45 am, including the two minutes’ silence and the laying of wreaths at the war memorial. This will finish at about 11.15 am, and people are then most welcome to make their way up to St Mary’s if they wish for a short service for all ages from 11.30 am – 12 noon. (There will still be the usual 8 am and 9.15 am communion services on that day.)

From 12.30 pm, St Mary’s and some visiting bell ringers will ring a half-muffled peal (lasting about 3 hours) as part of the ‘Ringing for Peace’ project.

The uniformed organisations and other members of our community have made poppies which will be draped from the tower of St Mary’s and arranged inside our churches.

The Parish Council has purchased some ‘Lest We Forget’ silhouettes from the Royal British Legion, and these have now been installed at the Memorial Hall, the Cemetery and St Paul’s, where we are very pleased to host an airman from the Royal Flying Corps.
